Staying at a place for so long ties people’s minds to appreciation and gratitude for what they have each and every day. So giving yourself some time away helps with resetting your mindset from routine life. In fact, these little breaks are essential to help us reset mindset and see our daily life with fresh perspective.
To attend a wedding of a high school classmate, I decided to return to my hometown a week earlier — partly to visit my family too. I spent 6 hours on the train reading, sleeping, and letting my mind wander. The next day, I slept in the once-so-familiar family guest room all day.

The small getaway felt so surreal compared to my daily life in my city. Then the following day, I began reviewing my three trinities of life with a reset mindset.
For “books” — I’ve been doing great. I still haven’t found a course I truly love enough to follow through, but I read every day. I can feel that I’m more at ease now, reading anywhere and always carrying a book with me.
For “miles” — I kind of don’t feel like training for my marathon recently. I’m not sure if it’s the heat of summer or a drop in motivation. But I have faith in myself. I always bounce back.
As for “matters of the heart” — I keep updating my website and blog each week. I’ve been using my free time in more enjoyable ways, away from screens or idle scrolling. Taking my ukulele with me on these little trips is a new habit I’m proud of.
For “business” — I’ve started doing more proactive outreach for opportunities and making more contacts. I keep reminding myself to stay open to opportunities I might not even be aware of yet. Good things are always happening to me. Things will turn out even better than I expect — I believe in that.
Getting away from your daily life or usual setting gives you a fresh perspective. And it doesn’t have to be far — or even a major trip. Just remember to try something new when life feels boring or you feel stuck.
Break patterns. Shake off the stuckness. See life with brand new eyes. It’s those moments when we reset mindset that lead to clarity. Find meaning and motivation for yourself all the time. Share your thoughts and let’s connect.
